You can either create a credit note directly from an existing invoice, or create a separate credit note that’s not linked to the original invoice.

Note: To create a credit note, you’ll need to login to your SumUp Account through the Dashboard at me.sumup.com. Credit notes cannot be created from the SumUp App.

Create a credit note from an invoice

If you’re creating a credit note directly from an invoice, you can cancel the invoiced amount either in full or partially. When you create a credit note from an invoice, the invoice’s status will change from “PAID” or “PARTIALLY PAID” depending on the amount in the credit note.

  1. Login to your SumUp Dashboard at me.sumup.com.

  2. From the menu on the left hand side of the page, click on “Invoices”.

  3. Click on the invoice you’d like to create a credit note for.

  4. Click on the three grey dots in the top right corner of the invoice, choose “Create” and click “Credit Note”

  5. A new window will open with a draft credit note. If you’d like to cancel the enire invoice, you can continue to the next step. If the credit note only needs some of the invoiced products or services cancelled, don’t forget to delete the corresponding lines. To delete a product line, click on the three grey dots icon at the end of each product line you’d like to delete, and click “Delete Line”.

  6. Once your credit note is ready, click on “Save” to save the credit note as a draft, or “Complete” to finalize the credit note.

Create a seperate credit note

You should only create a seperate credit note if an existing invoice is not integrated with your SumUp Account. We recommend that all credit notes be created from an existing invoice for proper bookkeeping, only if the invoice was created through SumUp.

  1. Login to your SumUp Dashboard at me.sumup.com.

  2. From the menu on the left hand side of the page, click on “Invoices”.

  3. From the main “Invoices” overview page, scroll down to the “Credit Notes” section, and select “New Credit Note”

  4. Fill out all of the relevant details you want to include in the credit note.

  5. Once your credit note is ready, click on “Save” to save the credit note as a draft, or “Complete” to finalize the credit note.
