Keeping your business details as well as your personal details up to date is not only crucial for your customers' receipts but also a legal requirement. We will support you to ensure that your business information is correct.

You can make the following changes to your account yourself:

Change your bank account

Customise your business name on your customers’ bank statement

Your billing descriptor is the business name that will appear on your customers’ bank statements. As a general rule the descriptor should look like this:

‘SumUp *Merchant Business Name’.*

You can customise this information so that your customers can easily connect the payments to your business. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Log in to
  2. Select “Account” followed by “Settings” in the menu bar on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. You can now amend the descriptor.
  4. Once you click “Save” the changes are applied immediately.


We always send the whole billing descriptor when processing a payment, but your customer’s bank may shorten the descriptor on their own bank statement.

*The “Merchant Business Name” is the business name provided by you, the merchant, during the registration process.

Personal Details

Change personal address

To change your personal address, please send us an email with a document that shows your new address and is no older than 6 months. Valid documents include a copy of a utility bill, a letter from the council tax, an electricity or landline phone bill, or any official letter.

Note: You may blur or hide the content of the document to protect your personal information. As soon as we have received your proof of address, we will change your address accordingly and send you confirmation.

Change personal details

To change your personal details, please send us an email with a high-quality photo of your ID (front and back), driver's license (front and back) or your passport (both pages).

To change your name, you can also send us a copy of a deed poll or marriage certificate. We will change your details upon receiving your document and send you a confirmation of the changes.

Change email address

To do so, please let us know your new e-mail address by contacting our Support Team from your current registered e-mail account. If you don't have access to it, you can send us an email or use the chat on We will confirm the change via e-mail.

Change phone number

To do so, please send your current phone number and your new phone number to our Support Team via e-mail or use the chat on You will be notified when the change will be active. Note: Your phone number is only required to contact you and won't affect your transactions.

Business details

Change business name or address

To do so, please send us an email containing:

  • Business with a legal type other than sole trader: a copy of your official company registration document, which should include the new business name or address.
  • Sole trader/freelancer: a copy of a supplier's invoice or a link to an online presence such as a website with a legal notice or a professional Facebook page.

We will confirm the change.

Change receipt information

Receipts issued with SumUp include company contact details. As a sole trader, we allow you to amend the receipt information to not display your full personal address. To do so, please contact Support.

To add a business logo on the receipt, send us a file (JPEG, PNG, BMP) no larger than 10 MB via email.

Should you be legally obliged to add your tax ID to the receipt, simply send us your tax ID (xxxx/xxxx/xxx) via email and we’ll add it.

Change company signatory

To change the signatory of a company's SumUp account, please send us the ID of an executive of the company, as stated in the business registration, and a power of attorney in the name of the new signatory signed by the aforementioned executive via email. Once this is changed, you will receive an email confirmation.

Change the legal type

Changing the legal type will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please send us your new company registration documents via email and state the reason for this change. We will confirm the change via email.

Note: Please be aware, that we may ask you for additional documents.

Change or add VAT

We are happy to add your VAT information once you have provided our Support Team with it via email. We will confirm the amendment via email.

Note: Your VAT starts with a 2 letter country code followed by 10 digits.

Good to know

Close account

If you want to close or delete your SumUp account, please email our Support Team, as only they can close your account for you. Please clearly state whether you wish to close or delete your SumUp account. 

Note: Once your account is closed, you won't be able to download transaction and payout reports. Make sure you have saved all the information you need before closing your account.
