Accept payments with your iPhone

  1. On the SumUp app, tap "Checkout" at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Tap "Amount" to enter a custom value (minimum £1.00) or "Items" to sell an item from your item catalogue.

  3. Tap "Charge" and select "Tap to Pay on iPhone".

  4. Prompt customers to hold their card or device horizontal to and flat against the contactless symbol on the iPhone screen. PIN verification may be needed.

You can enable accessibility options at the bottom of the screen to select PIN entry for customers who need it.

Present your phone to your customer. If you hold your phone to face them, the screen will reorient towards them.

Customers can pay by tapping their card or contactless-enabled device horizontally against the contactless symbol on your phone screen.
Some payments may require PIN confirmation to validate. At the bottom of the screen there is an option to activate accessibility options.

If a payment fails, you may need to update your iPhone to the latest iOS version. In some cases, it may not be possible to verify a payment even via PIN, causing payments to fail. If this happens, try another card or attempt payment via payment links.

If your transaction fails, you'll be prompted with a screen that tells you: "Try another payment method. Please try another payment method or card." There's an option to dismiss and cancel the payment in the bottom left corner and an option to retry with another payment method in the bottom right corner.

In some cases, it may not be possible to verify a payment via PIN, causing payments to fail. If this happens, try another card or attempt payment via payment links.

  1. On the transaction success screen, choose between sending the receipt as an email or SMS.

  2. Enter your customer’s contact details and confirm you want to send the receipt.
