How recoveries work

If you send a transfer to the wrong person or in the wrong amount, you can attempt to recover a transfer. However, there’s no guarantee of success as the process requires the recipient’s consent.

Transfers sent to accounts that don’t exist will be automatically returned to you after a processing period.

Recover transfers and payments

To attempt recovery, contact us with written documentation of the following:

  • A description of how the error occurred

  • Details of any contact with the recipient

  • Your account number and sort code

  • The recipient account’s account number and sort code

  • The account number and sort code of the intended recipient

Recipients have 20 days to respond to recovery requests. However, we can't guarantee that they'll consent to the return of your money.
