Note:

The credit functionality is only accessible through the dashboard on your SumUp profile.

Create a credit note from an invoice

With SumUp Invoices, you can create a credit note directly from an invoice, which will cancel all or part of the invoiced amount. When you create a credit note from an invoice, this will then change the status to “paid” or “partially paid” based on the amount on the credit note.

Follow the steps below to create a credit note from an invoice:

  1. On your SumUp profile, click on the “Invoices” tab.

  2. Open the invoice for which you want to create a credit note.

  3. Click on the three dots icon at the top right of the screen, then “Create”.

  4. Select “Credit Note”. A new window with a draft credit note open.

Note: To remove irrelevant items, click on the three dots icon at the end of the item line, then select “Delete Line”.

  5. Once the credit note is ready, click on “Save” to save it as a draft credit note, or on “Complete” to finalise the credit note.

Create an independent credit note

With SumUp Invoices, you can create an independent credit note that is not linked to the original invoice. This may be used in the case that the original invoice is not on your SumUp Invoices account.

To create a stand-alone credit note:

  1. On your SumUp profile, click on the “Invoices” tab.

  2. Select the “Credit Notes” section.

  3. Click on the “New Credit Note” button.

  4. Enter the credit note information: customer contact details, item details, price, etc.

  5. Once the credit note is ready, click on “Save” to save it as a draft credit note, or on “Complete” to finalise the credit note.

Note:

You should only create an independent credit note for an invoice that is not already registered in SumUp invoices. We recommend that credit notes are created from existing invoices as they are then automatically matched with one another.

Edit a completed credit note

If you realise that a completed credit note is incorrect, you can edit the information from your SumUp Invoices account.

To edit a credit note, follow these steps:

  1. On your SumUp profile, click on the “Invoices” tab

  2. Select the “Credit Notes” section.

  3. Open the credit note you want to edit.

  4. Click on the three dots icon at the top right of the screen, and then “Edit”.

  5. Edit the information so it is correct, and then click “Save”.

  6. You can then send the updated credit note to your customer’s email by clicking “Send”.
